7 Ways to Improve Your Website Design

Mastering web design can be somewhat difficult. You need to be able to meet the demands of your clients, while creating something that will rank well in the search engines. That means, you’ll need to know where to source your images, how to create a proper site navigation menu, and the right background and colour contrasts for the site. 
There are so many different things for you to consider when it comes to improving ones website. There’s no one fits all approach for you to adopt. In this article, I will outline 7 ways that you can improve the structure of your website.

1. Make It Responsive 

Did you know that more than a third of all website traffic to the top 10 websites out there, comes from mobile devices? 

That is a huge amount of traffic, and is always increasing, so who knows where it will be, next year. If you have a website that is not mobile ready, then you are losing a ton of potential visitors. A responsive website is one that adapts to the screen size of the device you view it on. 

2. Simplify You Navigation

You want to keep your visitors on your site, for as long as possible, so you’re going to need an easy to use navigation menu. Your navigation menu, should have no more than seven items on it, as you want to make it as easy as possible for them to use it, and keep your labels as brief and descriptive as possible. If done correctly, you can rest assure that your visitors will stay a lot longer than 10 seconds. 

3. Use Correct Images 

When it comes to sending a message to your visitors, you want to ensure that you’re using the right images. 

Because there are so many images out there for you to choose from, this can make things quite complicated. You don’t want to be caught up, in this particular area. 

Just because you use, what appears to be the correct image, it doesn’t mean people will look at it as genuine or will feel the same way about it, as you do. Ideally, you want to stick with images that have real people in it, preferably working in an office space. 

If you can’t find real photos, then there are several techniques that you can use when choosing the right image for your site. This will help make your brand look more credible and genuine to the general public. 

4. Make Every Page a Landing Page 

This is a very important tip, because many web designers make the mistake of putting all their focus and attention on the home page, while neglecting other areas of the website. If you’re selling a service on your site, then you should look at each page as an opportunity for you to do that. 

5. Regularly Review Site Design

Web design has its own trends, which change, with time, and so does your customers’ demands. Thus, it’s important that you’re reviewing your website at least twice a year. This doesn’t mean that you’ll need to redesign your website, twice a year, what it does mean is that you should be expected to make tweaks, adjustments and improvements at least twice, every year. 

6. Use White Space 

Whitespace is a crucial design element of any website, as it helps you break up a site’s page and also makes things more readable. 

White space, also referred to as negative space, is the area around the page that has nothing in it, that is devoid of any visuals or content. 

Although, initially, you may be put off by having so much white space, it actually helps, to prioritise the content, while improving readability. It’s also very important when it comes to positioning design elements in site design. 

If your website lacks white space, then you’ll want to review each and every page on your site, and strip it of content and design elements, that are not necessary. You also want the end user to be able to easily determine what they are looking at, and where, so make sure your headings are all in check. 7. Focus above the Fold 

So many webmasters have issues, getting the right amount of engagement on their websites. However, when you visit these websites, you find that all the most important information is positioned below the fold. When a visitor first stumbles upon your page, the first things that they see, is the things above the fold. 

Thus, you want to ensure that all key information is positioned there, that way, people will feel encouraged to scroll down, whether it’s to look at the rest of the information or an offer positioned at the bottom of an article.
